Clayton

Named after George Washington Clayton, a Denver business pioneer and philanthropist, this neighborhood is deeply rooted in history. It was originally part of a land grant from Clayton’s estate, shaping its early development and community character. The neighborhood is home to the historic Clayton College, which operated as a boys’ orphanage from 1911 to 1957 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Clayton is also home to City of Nairobi Park, a nod to Denver’s international ties through its sister cities program. The flag’s design draws inspiration from the early blueprint of Clayton College, honoring its historical significance, while its colors reflect those of the Kenyan flag, symbolizing the neighborhood’s connection to both its local heritage and global relationships.
