Five Points
The flag’s gray bars represent the historic streetcar lines that made Five Points Denver’s first streetcar suburb in the late 1800s. The neighborhood’s name comes from the distinctive Five Points intersection, created by the convergence of multiple downtown street grids.
The color scheme, inspired by the Harlem flag, honors Five Points’ legacy as the "Harlem of the West."During the early to mid-1900s, Five Points was the heart of Denver’s African American community, home to thriving Black-owned businesses, newspapers, and social clubs despite redlining and segregation. The neighborhood also became a national jazz hotspot, welcoming legends like Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, and Miles Davis to iconic venues such as the Rossonian Hotel.
The flag embodies Five Points’ deep historical roots and its ongoing role as a center for art, music, and community in Denver.
