The flag of this East Denver neighborhood thoughtfully honors its founders, Matthias P. Cochrane of New Jersey and Baron Walter von Richthofen of Germany, through its color scheme. The divided quadrants symbolize the neighborhood’s historic resistance to annexation into Denver in the early 1900s, a battle that escalated to the Supreme Court.
At the heart of the design is the cupola of von Richthofen's "Molkery," a nod to the area’s distinctive "TB houses" built to care for tuberculosis patients. This flag weaves together the neighborhood’s rich history—its founders' legacy, its fight for independence, and its compassionate role in public health.
