Union Station

The Union Station neighborhood flag draws inspiration from the architectural and cultural heart of the area—Denver’s historic Union Station. The flag’s main elements mirror the station’s signature arched windows, a defining feature of the 1914 Beaux-Arts building. The colors pay homage to the iconic Travel by Train sign, which has welcomed travelers for generations and remains one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Union Station has long been a gateway to Denver. Originally built in 1881 and reconstructed in 1914 after a fire, the station was once the bustling hub of rail travel in the Rocky Mountain region. However, as train travel declined in the mid-20th century, the station fell into disrepair. That changed dramatically in the 2010s, when a massive revitalization effort transformed Union Station into the anchor of one of Denver’s fastest-growing neighborhoods. The station’s renovation, completed in 2014, reestablished it as a key transit hub while also introducing a mix of restaurants, shops, and the luxurious Crawford Hotel inside its historic walls.

The surrounding neighborhood has seen explosive growth, evolving from an underutilized rail yard into a vibrant urban center filled with high-rise apartments, office towers, and public spaces. Today, Union Station is more than just a transit hub—it’s the heart of a thriving district that blends Denver’s past and future. The flag reflects that duality, honoring the neighborhood’s deep roots in transportation history while celebrating its dynamic evolution into a modern downtown destination.
