University Park

Founded in 1886, the University Park neighborhood was originally advertised for its "unsurpassed mountain views," clean air, and peaceful setting—far from the city's smelters and saloons. The flag’s sky blue field reflects this legacy, symbolizing the open skies and natural beauty that first drew residents to the area.

At the heart of the flag is the Chamberlin Observatory, a striking example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. Completed in 1890 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the observatory remains a neighborhood landmark and a center for stargazing, still in use today by the University of Denver’s astronomy classes.

The crimson star honors the neighborhood’s deep connection to DU, whose influence has shaped the area for more than a century. A mix of historic homes, tree-lined streets, and academic heritage, University Park remains a sought-after enclave, blending past and present in one of Denver’s most storied neighborhoods.
