This neighborhood boasts a rich history, once serving as the site of the original Arapaho encampment, strategically positioned on elevated terrain at the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. As Denver grew in the early 1900s, this area attracted affluent residents seeking relief from the smelters, leading to the rise of newly defined neighborhoods, including the Scottish Highlands.
By the mid-20th century, a wave of Italian immigrants was followed by a primarily Latino population, further enriching the neighborhood's cultural fabric. Today, this community stands at the heart of rapid urban redevelopment, bringing transformative changes to both its physical landscape and social character.
The flag design incorporates elements of the Arapaho tribal flag, arranged in a pattern reminiscent of the Scottish flag. It also features a color palette inspired by the flags of Italy and Mexico, honoring the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the neighborhood and reflecting its vibrant, ever-evolving identity.
